Listen to the sound beyond the silence because it always has something
important to say. Don't apologise for being human. Van Gogh once said, 'What is
done in love is done well'. Start there. Really think about that and about
how it relates to your life. Don't be scared of your own voice. Be bold - show
people your art.
Hemingway once said, 'The only way to know if you can trust someone is to trust them.' In human connections, there are no half measures. If you have no trust left to give, only you can know when you are ready to heal. Once healed, you might come to know that you can give of yourself without ever diminishing in spirit because you are infinite. You might come to know that you are worth more than a life lived in shadow.
Surround yourself with your favourite colours, tastes and smells. Notice how even the smallest detail can completely change the energy in a room. Don't tell yourself that you're not permitted to seek pleasure, to seek solitude, to hold space for yourself, to break down, to build up, to get some air.. Bolster yourself. Believe in your rights, stand up for your needs and never underestimate the importance of refueling and rejuvenating. Your body can't run on empty; eventually it will break down. So will your soul. Both need food and both need rest. Give generously and they will reward you for it.

Don't wait. It might never stop raining so if you want to run to someone and say something, do it now. Don't take a newspaper to cover your hair. Forget cliches. Speak from the heart. A hundred miles looks a very long way for those who are not moved by the fact that they will one day die. Do it now.
When it comes to writing, making art, making music.. It helps to have the voices of the masters on in the background sometimes. Take a notebook everywhere with you. Spend time looking at the stuff you don't understand, listening to the stuff you don't like and reading the stuff you don't rate. Be humble and stay open. Spend some days very close to the ground. Take note of the smell of the earth.

Healing is hard. People talk about forgiveness as though it comes in two parts: before and after. It's not like that at all. It's a very slow song and no one quite remembers the beginning by the time it's reached the end. Forgiveness happens in degrees. You have been very successful if you've managed forty or fifty per cent. You have been brave if you've even considered five per cent. If you dreamed of forgiving a hundred per cent, you're one of the lucky ones. Always admire your desire to forgive, even if actual forgiveness doesn't arrive for years. When it comes to the soul, the big things normally start in the mind and then migrate to the heart with arduous effort.
